How can I make my paint brush softer and usable again? ?

I need to paint a couple walls but I left the brush without water and covered in paint.


Is there some kind of household liquid I could use or should I buy something from the store?

Buy a new brush, wash it after each use and use a latex paint( water based), also clean in warm soapy water.

Sometimes warm soapy (dish detergent) water will do the trick...depending on the quality of the paint dried on it. (oil based or water based)





Use Behr paint (Home Depot) next time...it washes off brushes, carpet, floors and clothing like magic...I will never paint with any other brand now that I have experienced the ';one coat'; wall and washout miracles.





You may need to run out and buy another brush. Hand them your old brush and see if they can clean it.





This time, before you start painting, fill a small disposable container (butter or other) with hot soapy water so you can put your brushes in it without hassel...when you are so tired and fed up and don't want to bother with anything! I do that when I make cookies...I fill the sink with hot soapy water so it just takes whatever I am done with...and I am glad later!

Even as a professional painter, I occasionally screw up and fail to clean a brush properly. I just toss em, and buy a new one, it ain't worth the hassle, and nothing makes them as good as new anyway.
You could try soaking it in some fabric softener and hot water and scrub with an old toothbrush but I think it would be easier to go buy another one since you need to paint! Next time stick it in a plastic bag in the fridge or freezer.
I don't know if this will work but if it's a really big brush then you could soak it into hot water for a day and then see if the bristles are any of use.

boil in vinegar and try and get as much off as possible , if it is a cheap brush buy a new one , but the real good ones are worth saving
White spirit will strip the paint off it!!!! You can buy it in a hardware shop i think.
Well you could find a liquid to soak it in or....I the easiest thing would be to buy a new one
