If you use a brush and squidgy the edge with a sharp putty knife the line will be straight.
Personally i find a paint brush easier, although it does require a steady hand.
Am not a fan of masking tape tho, as it just pulls the paint off the other wall!

wrong place for the question but I'll go with your metaphor. A broader brush is clearly less detailed. They don't really see what their opponents truly are. They aren't interested in knowing who and what their opposition is so they don't try to see them clearly and thus use less detailed means when recreating them. Perhaps, also a subconscious thing. The human tendency is to fear the unknown and by blurring the picture it is less ';knowable'; (it's a word now dang it) and thus something to be feared, not trusted. What would cause new paint or primer to put little clumps of paint on the walls with a brush or roller?
Hello, I've never experienced this problem when painting. Whether I use a new roller or brush little flexs of thickened paint show up on the wall. Both the paint and primer are new as well. I have to roll it on, then wipe it partially off with a cloth, and then roll it again to get a smoothe finish. I've used the brands of paint and primer without any problems previously.

Don't know if this is your problem or not, but we had clumps of paint on our walls after we use a PLASTIC roller pan. The paint would start drying on the plastic from loading the roller and because it didn't stick to plastic, the next load would pick up dried flicks of paint.
We never have had a problem with this when we use metal roller pans. It solved our problem!
i always screen any paint by pouring it thru a strainer that you can buy at your paint store. but first i mix it with a paint mixing blade on a cordless drill to blend any pigment that is on the bottom of the can. also, the pro's will wrap new roller covers with painters masking tape from one end of the roller cover to the other, do this in a spiral overlapping wrap, to pull off any loose lint or fibers from it. if you still have problems with the paint lumping, either return it to where you got it, or thin it with the proper solvent or thinner listed on the side of the can. start small, you can always add more, but you can't take it back out. good luck, hope this helps.

Best air brush and what kind of paint?
I've been given the opportunity to do some work designing on tote bags/t-shirts and such items for sororities and fraternities, and I want to travel a bit into using air brush techniques. Don't know much about it, and want to make sure I'm using the right equipment and paints to produce a good product. Mostly canvas bags. What are some good companies that produce quality air brush supplies that aren't super super expensive? I want good tools, but I'm just starting out. Any ideas or suggestions will be great! I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you're just starting out with airbrush, you're going to be spending some loot. That being said, I'll try to keep this as painless as possible.
First things first. You need a compressor. Since you're just beginning I'd suggest seeing if you can borrow one from a friend. You don't want to spend a few hundred on a compressor just to find out that airbrush isn't your thing. If you already have one, good for you. That's one big expense out of the way. If you really want to buy one, check Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/ I've had their 21 gallon compressor in my home studio for a few years now, and the only problem I've had was the power switch, that I broke myself. No problem though. I just called their 800 number and $7.00 later, they shipped me a new switch.
Now for the fun part. You need an airbrush. Iwata is pretty much the industry standard. My personal workhorse is their HP-C. At around $200.00 it's probably not what you're looking for right now. There are a couple of companies selling what are basically an Iwata knock off. They all come from the same manufacturer in China. They just put their own names on them. I bought a couple of these a while ago, and man was I surprised. They're not quite Iwata quality, but pretty damn close. A quality gravity feed airbrush for about $50.00! I'll take it. There are actually a bunch of companies selling these, but I've only found two that offer replacement parts. Airbrush City http://www.airbrushcity.com/ and Airbrush Depot http://www.tcpglobal.com/airbrushdepot/ Airbrush Depot calls theirs Master Airbrush. Get yourself one of their gravity feed guns with the 7cc paint cup.
As far as paint goes. There are some paints specifically made for fabric, but you can also just use Createx airbrush paint. It's basically just acrylic paint that's been reduced for use with an airbrush. You can get this pretty much any where that sells airbrushes. One thing to know about painting on fabric. When the artwork is finished you should heat set the paint. You can do this with an iron on a low setting (keep a piece of wax paper between the iron and the fabric), or a heat gun. I've even heard of some people just throwing the stuff in the dryer, but I 'm not promising anything there.
Miscellaneous stuff. You're going to need a regulator, a moisture trap, hoses and probably some fittings. You can get most of this stuff really cheap at Harbor Freight. If not, Airbrush depot carries everything. You can also rent some very helpful airbrush videos here. http://smartflix.com/

Can you spray/brush lacquer paint onto varnished kitchen cabinet doors?
I scrubed down the doors with a TSP solution and fine grit foam sandind blocks. I then rinsed them, wiped them down and allowed them time to air-dry. They are now visible dull but sqeaky clean and smooth to the touch. It is said that if you are lucky enough to acquire one of these brushes, that you don't need to have a clue how to paint, no years of hard study and practice, you will just be a great artist right from the start. You will be so good that you will make Van Gogh look like a hack.

it depends the size or the width of the cabinet, if this is too wide this is the time you should use roller, or if this too short or cute cabinet, now it is the time to use brush, roller, but let me give you some tips, both roller and brush is not suitable for the cabinet to use, basically, we use paint spray so it can be done well.

i personally use a product called turpenoid, which is less harsh that turpentine and can be found in any craft store like Michael's or jo ann fabric. there are also bar soaps that have sand in them that can do the job, it just takes a little longer.How can remove oil paint from a used brush? Try not to inhale the fumes.

When I have cleaned the brush, I always lightly grease the bristle with 'Vaseline'. This protects it until the next use as it is easily washed out with white spirit or turps and is not greasy.
p.s. You do not say where you live but maybe your Kerosene could be branded as Paraffin.

ceiling paint is flat... it doesn't leave brush and roller marks... especially if there is texture on the ceiling.

Open a blank page and experiment with them: select one, choose a colour, choose a size and see what they do. The airbrush simulates a paint spray (as from an aerosol), the paint brush simulates a paintbrush and the pencil acts as a pencil i.e. it will only draw lines (but you can alter the thickness of the lines). The other two are usually used to fill large areas.

3) Make sure there's no obstructions between the Wiimote %26amp; the sensor bar -- Anything that can obstruct the view of sensor bar from the angle of the Wiimote can cause erratic behavior as the Wiimote can find one reference point (instead of the 2 points it needs)
4) REMOVE ALL CANDLES FROM YOUR TV %26amp; SENSOR BAR -- Candles, when lit, emit IR light. This can interfere with the Wiimote.
5) Try to avoid direct sunlight -- Sunlight emits IR light, so try to put some shades around the TV (%26amp; play area, if playing outside).
6) Adjust distance OR sensor bar sensitivity -- The closer you are to the sensor bar, the lower the sensitivity you need. In the sensor bar settings, adjust the sensitivity until you only see 2 blinking lights in the test window. If you see 4 lights, the sensitivity is too high!
ALTERNATIVELY, you can step further back from the sensor bar counter this as well... but this isn't always practical.
7) AVOID SUDDEN POINTING ACTIONS -- Quickly point your Wiimote to the TV screen from an OFF-screen point (or out of the Sensor bar range) can cause the Wiimote's IR sensor to become temporarily disorientated.
This disorientation causes the on-screen actions be in reverse of your intended actions. However, this disorientation only lasts for a few seconds (no more than 5 seconds) while the Wiimote reorients itself.

If possibe, get some tweezers and pull the bristle out. It should be okay to put another coat of paint on your wall, making sure you put a little extra on that spot.
Depends on the paint, latex is easy to fix....if its oil based or a varnish its a little more involved but it can be done, just takes a little longer.
Easy, just flick a part out of the bristle(expose)with your pocket knife. Then jerk it out and scrape flat with your knife blade.
The next coat will cover it all up properly.
Get a Stanley knife and gently pick at on end of the bristle stuck on the wall until it is able to be pulled off. then you may sand it down a little. The 2nd coat will cover it well enough not to see it.
It pays to buy the best quality brush you can afford to minimise bristles falling out in the first place.
NO wait until its dry then paint over it and tape the parts off that you don't want that color to go on most of all relax and have some fun

I've scraped away until the canvas was blank. It's nothing special. Some people tell me their canvas reflects true reality which is scary, because it includes images like dante's inferno if I don't replicate their image onto my canvas. You can scrape your canvas until it is so thin you can see through it. But still no reality. And you can go the other way and paint over the paint and over, and over until it is as thick as a house - and nowhere in all your paintings you will come across reality. Because the only place you'll find that elusive commodity is...... between your ears.

However, if reality was meant to be the same for everyone then why paint over it? Never mind the fact that we could paint over it, for what is underneath the paint requires none of our scraping nor peeling. Confirmation simply is not the function of reality.
It seems to be a tough dilemma until we realize that it is meant to be a painting supported by the canvas. Without neither, reality is incomplete. Part of it is meant to cover the canvas and be looked at, part of it is meant to be covered and unseen.
In a nutshell, reality is a painting on canvas. I do not necessary agree with the analogy 100%, but it is how this question iseems to be hinting at.

If you think that by taking us apart will give you the thing you think you need to comprehend us then you are so very sadly mistaken. 4 years ago I was working with a company that asked me to paint poles for them outside. I brush painted them, but the paint was oil based and had a strong smell. I did not wear a mask, for the thought never even occured to me. I did this for 3 months, not all day, but maybe a few hours. At least, I would make them pay for a thorough physical including an MRI to make sure there is nothing suspicious. Also, you never know, years down the road, if what you did when you were younger caused cancer.

Give the item a good rubbing down first, this gives the new paint something to key into and stops it flaking off later. A roller is much easier to get a good finish with if you have not had much experience with a brush. Best of all is to use cans of spray paint. Give lots of thin coats because it will run if you try to give one thick coat. I made a word look 3D in Illustrator, and then brought it to Photoshop to do what I wanted to do.
I launched that 3D word in Photoshop and I am trying to paint on it. But, when I select any color to paint, * all it paints is shades of gray *. What shall I do?Help with Photoshop paint brush please?

How can we pick up a color from a printed paper and transfer it to a plain paper by a paint brush?

change your color in the material palette, then choose your brush, if you click with left click your brush, then it will be the same color as like your foreground color. If you click your brush with right click, then your brush will be the same color as like the background color.

I've scraped away until the canvas was blank. It's nothing special. Some people tell me their canvas reflects true reality which is scary, because it includes images like dante's inferno if I don't replicate their image onto my canvas. Should i use a paint sprayer or brush/roller for a painting job?
its a church hall and its pretty wide open so i think the sprayer would be easier to coat the ceilings and wall, prepping shouldnt be much around the light fixtures..is it tricky to use a sprayer? which one is a good one to buy/rent? roughly 6000 sq. ft, thanks..Should i use a paint sprayer or brush/roller for a painting job?
I helped a friend paint and used a sprayer once (don't know what kind it was, though). I think it was messy and used A LOT more paint than with a roller. Professionals have better luck, I bet. Have a painting party and get several people to paint with rollers. It'll be fun.

Spreading wood glue with a paint brush?

i usually do use a brush when gluing up tenons, dovetails etc because it is quicker and more even, i use a smallish paint brush with the bristles trimmed to about half their original length, this makes the brush stiffer and easier to control/clean.
you only need a surprising small amount of glue to make a strong joint, excess glue does nothing to strengthen a joint.

I've seen many people especially younger people just take glue and glob it on then wipe any extra off which really looks like crap. You should be able to judge if you have enough on the wood and a paint brush doesn't limit you, you can always put on more.
I would think It would be safe, just don't apply it to thin, and make sure when you are done to rinse out the brush thoroughly so it doesn't harden and become a rock! Hope this Helps! :)

What's the best type of brush and paint to use for painting a bathroom ceiling?
usually you want bathroom and or kitchen paint to be washable. that used to mean a satin or semigloss. however they are making flat paints now that are washable. i prefer a flat paint on a ceiling but it is up to your preference. use a quality paint. don't go for a home store bargain. ever any room. you don't need much so spend the extra 10 bucks per gallon. and i would use a roller not a brush. more even coating and less brush marks obviously. the nap will depend on the texture, but again get a quality roller. it pays off in the long run. and do a good job preping. preping will save alot of time down the road.What's the best type of brush and paint to use for painting a bathroom ceiling?

I've got a brand new steal gate in my drive way and i need to sand, steel wool or wire brush off the rust then paint it. I'm not sure if i should just buy some spray paint or if i should get a brush. Nothing else needed except for rehanging the gate.
Definitely spray it. I wouldn't do spray paint though. I would get a paint sprayer if you have an air compressor. If you don't have the compressor or can't afford a sprayer then get the spray paint. Brushing it is a pain in the butt especially at the joints. Plus you'll end up with ';weak spots'; in the paint. Spraying is definitely best.
If you feel like burning a million calories, then brush will do.
I'd spray it though because I love sitting on my couch and watching TV all day, but of course I need to paint my steel gate so I'll use the luxury of the spray.

I believe the Split paint brush is the cheapest, going for 125k+
The next cheapest are the Checkered PBs or Speckled PBs.
However, they're a lot more - 220k and 290k respectively.
Personally, I like the Speckled one best - shame it's so expensive ;]

Is it better to use a sponge or regular paint brush to paint previously painted kitchen cabinets?
i can't understand why people vote for answers like this one
first of all jerry you need to remove your doors and drawers and all of the hardware. give everything a light sand no a course sand wash with some TSP and water and rinse with clean water. allow to dry. lay your doors on something like a bench with some blocks underneath and stand the drawers on their ends. if the previous paint is sound or you are not going from an alkyd paint to a water based paint then you don't need to prime. if it was me i would be applying 2 - 3 coats of an alkyd finish coat. what ever finish you wish. the finish is far durable than water based paint and they come out looking far nicer. spraying is a great idea but very few people have a gun or the space to use it. get some 4 inch fabric rollers. give them a wash out to remove any loose fibres and allow to dry. then apply your paint using the roller and a bush for corners and edges to your doors, drawer fronts and the tops, bottoms, sides and style of your cabinets. if you use foam rollers they are a waste of time and money. if you want them to dry a bit faster then add some japan driers to your paint. it will also give an even tougher finish. if you find that without the driers your paint is drying too fast and pulling then there is a product from flood called penetrol. it will slow down the drying time and it is also great for thinning if you do decide to spray.
It may be better to spray the cabinets if you are ok at that. don't get too close and keep the sprayer on the move. Practice (English Spelling) on a scrap piece of wood first. Clean the surface first.
Or use a brush but finish on vertical surfaces with a downward stroke or you will develop tear drops in the finished paintwork.
Best to rub them back with some coarse grain sandpaper, use primer, then use a roller where possible to ensure an even coat and a smooth one of paint.

i usually do use a brush when gluing up tenons, dovetails etc because it is quicker and more even, i use a smallish paint brush with the bristles trimmed to about half their original length, this makes the brush stiffer and easier to control/clean.
you only need a surprising small amount of glue to make a strong joint, excess glue does nothing to strengthen a joint.
a thin even coat, enough to cover it, but not so much that it runs and drips off when the piece is tilted, on both surfaces is all that is needed.Spreading wood glue with a paint brush?
Personally I like to have the glue cover more area and less amount the glue it's self. I've seen many people especially younger people just take glue and glob it on then wipe any extra off which really looks like crap. If you thin it out over more area and use the same amount it's much stronger because the glue actually has a chance to dry and not take weeks. You should be able to judge if you have enough on the wood and a paint brush doesn't limit you, you can always put on more.
I would think It would be safe, just don't apply it to thin, and make sure when you are done to rinse out the brush thoroughly so it doesn't harden and become a rock! Hope this Helps! :)
a brush is fine for spreading glue. you dont want a lot of squeeze out anyway...

What's the best type of brush and paint to use for painting a bathroom ceiling?
usually you want bathroom and or kitchen paint to be washable. that used to mean a satin or semigloss. however they are making flat paints now that are washable. i prefer a flat paint on a ceiling but it is up to your preference. use a quality paint. don't go for a home store bargain. ever any room. you don't need much so spend the extra 10 bucks per gallon. and i would use a roller not a brush. more even coating and less brush marks obviously. the nap will depend on the texture, but again get a quality roller. it pays off in the long run. and do a good job preping. preping will save alot of time down the road.What's the best type of brush and paint to use for painting a bathroom ceiling?

As you already know..paint thinner only removes oil based paint and will not remove acrylic paint.
What WILL remove acrylic paint from your brush is rubbing alcohol. Soak your brush for about 5 minutes in the alcohol to soften the dried paint. Then, with a paper towel, gently wipe away the paint. Repeat until all the paint is removed.
It's fast and easy...and cheap.
After cleaning (If your brush is natural hair) treat the little darling with a tiny dollop of hair conditioner to re-moisturize.
Caution: keep rubbing alcohol away from small children. It is poisonous if ingested...however, won't hurt your skin if your should get some on you.

I believe the Split paint brush is the cheapest, going for 125k+
The next cheapest are the Checkered PBs or Speckled PBs.
However, they're a lot more - 220k and 290k respectively.
Personally, I like the Speckled one best - shame it's so expensive ;]

to a certain extent yes. mineral spirits are petroleum based so they will eventually wither weaken or severly damage the bristles after a long time. best way is to simply clean the brush and then wrap it in a paper towel and leave it someplace where it can dry nirmally.Does leaving your paint brush for months in mineral spirits damage the brush?

When I'm painting and take a break the paint brush gets hard as a rock when I return. Usually I soak it in hot water and that helps a little but not much. I was looking for the proper way to clean a paint brush because lately I've been spending a fortune on paint brushes.Cleaning a paint brush the proper way?
Mmm...Can't avoid the hardness, that happens to me all the time, and I think it's a good thing to help maintain the shape.
Rinse them with warm water and soap, and squeeze out the excess water, let them dry upside down or flat, I usually don't take care of mine =/ so i just leave them however, but I think you should dry them upside down....Cleaning a paint brush the proper way?
I would need to know what type of paint you are using. For oils, if you are going back to painting, then turpentine or turpenoid. For acrylic brushes, rinse them out good and wash them with soap and water. Acrylics will dry very fast in the brushes. Oil will not.
For oil brushes that are dry, try soaking them in straight Murphy's oil soap. Rinse well, then, using a bar if Ivory soap, wash the Murphy's oil soap and rinse very well again. Make sure the brushes have no soap in them. I have had the Murphy's unstiffen oil brushes I forgot to clean until a week later.
clean the brush thouroughly with the appropriate solvent (water, thinner, acetone etc.) then spin the brush between your palms to force the excess solvent out of the brush, then shape the brush with your fingers and let it dry.
when you are using brushes that cost $20 + such as signwriting quills you learn to care for your brushes.
What I do is get luke warm water, put some liquid soap in my hand, and then put my hand in the water. Then I take the brush and brush it in circles in my palm. Then rinse it until there is no more soap in the brush. After that, take a paper towel and brush the paint brush on it, if there is still paint, repeat the process. Hope this helps!
